The European Bullhead is once again part of the ecosystem and foodchain in Suså river. Biologists from Næstved municipality have collected several hundred fish in Sweden and brought them to Næstved.

Already last year the first bullheads were tentatively released after more than 60 years away from Denmark.

The water quality in the Suså is improved
The European bullhead became extinct in Denmark back in the 1960’ies because of poor physical conditions and the degradation of water quality due to wastewater. Now both the water quality and the physical conditions in the Suså are so good that it is estimated that the fish will thrive well in the watercourse.
